Does your drinking water have an odd odour? Are you noticing more white spots on your dishes? Does your hair feel dry and brittle after showering? It may be time to invest in a water filtration system. n

At Modern Air & Water, we install top-of-the-line water filtration systems to improve the quality of your drinking water. Here are the types of systems we have available for homes in Edmonton!

1. Reverse osmosis water filtration systems

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water treatment method that uses a specialized, semi-permeable membrane to remove nearly all contaminants and impurities from water, including bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, chemicals, and dissolved solids.

RO systems are ideal for neighbourhoods or regions with high levels of pollutants or people who require extremely purified water for specific uses, such as fish tanks or brewing beer.n

2. Activated carbon filtration systems

Activated carbon filtration is a common water treatment method that uses activated carbon to attract and absorb chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals that may be present in drinking water.

Active charcoal filters are relatively inexpensive and are best at removing unpleasant tastes and odours from water, especially sources that contain sulphur or have been treated with chlorine.n

3. UV water filtration systems

UV water filtration systems use ultraviolet light to disinfect water by inactivating or destroying harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and cysts. The UV light wavelength damages the DNA of these organisms without the use of bad-tasting chemicals like chlorine.

UV water filtration is a good option for homeowners who get their drinking water from a lake, river or well. However, UV systems don’t remove particles or sediment. Therefore, they’re often used in combination with another pre-filtration system.

4. Mesh filtration

Mesh filtration, also known as mechanical filtration, uses a physical barrier to capture and eliminate suspended solids like dirt, clay, sand, and rust particles from water. However, mesh filters don’t remove chemicals, bacteria, or dissolved particulates. Consequently, they’re most often used as pre-filters in water treatment systems to prolong the life of more advanced filters.n

It’s important to note that the choice of water treatment method depends on your specific water quality issues, the level of purification you need and how you use your water. Therefore, it’s a good idea to speak with an experienced water treatment professional from Modern Air & Water to determine the best solution for your situation.n
